ACM-R5 is the name of this scary amphibious robotic snake that can swim inside water and move on the land also. Developed by Hirose Fukushima Lab in Japan, ACM-R5 consists of an universal joint and bellows. It was developed on the basis of the previous model HELIX, which was designed for research of spirochete-like helical swimming. The New Zealand researchers have joined hands with their Korean counterparts to develop a robot that can perform some basic duties of a doctor. The three year project will be carried out in the new robotics laboratory in Auckland. The Kiwi-based Foundation for Research, Science and Technology will provide $1.8 million to the project, while Korea has agreed to offer $3.7 million.
